The Read-Aloud Handbook came highly recommended from a friend who has been gifting it to people for years. When I saw that this version was updated I thought that would be a good thing. Wrong. The first thing I noticed is most of the books recommended are recent - 2013 - 2018. There are a few of the wonderful classics. Not enough though. I'm going to order an older version that keeps more in line with Jim Trelease's vision. To interest children in reading and recommending good books - go for the original - without the "modern" revisions from another source. My dos centavos. I bought, read, and followed the instructions in the first edition of this book with my daughter back in 1981. I cannot count how many expecting moms I've given this book to since then. Reading aloud was a huge part of our family culture and homeschool. All my kids are readers and have personal libraries in their homes (or on their phones), even the one with severe dyslexia and other learning disabilities. Buy it. Do it. You won't regret it.
